Janet Street-Porter argues more women in Cabinet would have helped ‘manage lockdown’

Loose Women panelist Janet Street-Porter has expressed her views on how more women in Cabinet could have positively impacted the way in which nationwide lockdown was established across England.

During Tuesday morning’s edition of the ITV talk show, Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan, Brenda Edwards and Janet took part in a discussion about the new lockdown rules announced by Boris Johnson during his address last night.

Janet, 74, began by stating that while she is ‘pleased’ the country has now been placed in lockdown, she wishes it had been put into effect two weeks before Christmas.

Describing the tier system as ‘confusing’, the broadcaster said that she believes it would have been beneficial for a ‘simple message’ to be issued that everyone could have followed.

She then opined that had there been more women in Cabinet, ‘there might be more reflection’ about how lockdown affects members of the public.

‘I just wish, if the Cabinet had been – I know this might sound sexist – but if there had been more women in the Cabinet instead of being mostly men of a certain age, if it was more evenly balanced between the sexes, there might be more reflection about how you actually manage in a lockdown,’ she said.

‘Because after all it is women that are now going to bear the brunt of shopping, running the house, homeschooling and trying to hold down a job at the same time.’

Coleen added that when the new lockdown was announced, she felt ‘really down’.

‘However, when they said, “Ok, we are now in full lockdown,” I was actually relieved, because I was so confused with the tier system, I think most people were,’ she said.

‘There was a part of me that thought, “Good, we’re all on the same level, we all know we’re in lockdown, we’ve all got the same rules.” So it was a relief, actually, for me.’

On Tuesday, Cabinet minister Michael Gove cautioned that some lockdown restrictions could remain in place until the end of March.

Speaking to Sky News, he said: ‘What we will be doing is everything we can to make sure that as many people as possible are vaccinated so we can begin progressively to lift restrictions.

‘I think it’s right to say that as we enter March we should be able to lift some of these restrictions but not necessarily all.’

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.

Loose Women weigh in on speculation Stacey Solomon is Sausage on The Masked Singer UK

Sorry, this video isn't available any more.

Several of Loose Women’s presenters have joined in the discussion regarding whether or not their fellow panelist Stacey Solomon is behind the mask of Sausage on The Masked Singer UK.

During the launch show for the second series of The Masked Singer UK on Boxing Day on ITV, the hilariously costumed Sausage went up against Badger in the first round of the competition.

After performing a rendition of Rag’n’Bone Man’s 2017 hit song Skin, many viewers speculated that the celebrity singing in disguise as a Sausage could be Stacey, who finished in third place on The X Factor in 2009.

During Tuesday morning’s edition of Loose Women, Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan, Brenda Edwards and Janet Street-Porter expressed their views on whether it could be Stacey underneath the costume.

‘I think it definitely sounds like Stacey. There’s elements of it. And she loves sausage and chips,’ Coleen said.

However, after the advert break Ruth noted that Coleen is now ‘not so sure’ Sausage is Stacey after all.

Brenda hypothesised that the singer could be an ‘older lady’, adding that she thinks it could be ‘an actress that we don’t think can sing’.

To add even further fuel to the debate, Ruth mentioned that a Loose Women viewer believes it could be Brenda, who finished in fourth place on The X Factor in 2005.

As Brenda stared at the camera with surprise over the claim, Janet stated that she thinks the viewer’s prediction could be correct.

‘She is making a big fuss trying to divert the whole subject away from her,’ Janet said about Brenda.

‘No, Brenda’s louder than that,’ Coleen added, causing her fellow panelists to burst into fits of laughter.

So could Sausage turn out to be Stacey or Brenda? We can’t wait to find out.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.

The Masked Singer series 2: Who is behind each mask?

With the nation more or less confined to their living rooms every Saturday night, The Masked Singer has proven to be something of a lockdown 3.0 saviour.

While the performances are of course a draw, most of the fun lies in guessing just who is behind each mask.

Here are the clues and theories so far:

Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash tease wedding date as they confirm 2021 ceremony

Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash have spoken about their upcoming nuptials following their recent engagement, teasing that the ceremony is due to take place this year.

On Christmas Eve, Stacey and Joe announced that they had become engaged.

The couple first started dating in 2015, welcoming their first child together in 2019. Stacey has two elder sons from previous relationships.

On Thursday, Stacey spoke to her fellow Loose Women panelists about her engagement, with her fiancé making a surprise appearance over video chat to share more details on the proposal.

Joe, 38, told the presenters that he would have been ‘devastated’ if Stacey, 31, had turned him down.

Recalling how ‘nervous’ he felt about the proposal, Jo said: ‘We’ve had such a tough year, me and Stacey, privately. Losing people, my Nan and stuff like that.

‘I just thought, you know, I wanted to do this for a long time, and there’s no better time than right now. It was lovely because all the boys were there, they got to see it. She said yes, so we’re going to get married.’

Former EastEnders actor Joe added that he didn’t think he and Stacey were going to ‘get married so soon’, hinting that a wedding could be on the cards in the very near future.

‘To be fair, I didn’t think we were going to get married so soon. I thought we’d have a couple of years,’ he said, before revealing that he and Stacey could get ‘married in a few months’.

Joe set up a stunning display of roses for his proposal to Stacey (Picture: Instagram/Stacey Solomon)

‘Sometimes you’ve got to get on the ride and go for it,’ he said.

‘I think Stacey’s really keen to do it this year, I’m really keen as well, because like I said – it’s been a really tough year, and I can’t wait for her to be my wife.’

Joe definitely raised the bar with his romantic proposal, setting up a display of white roses in one of Stacey’s favourite spots in the woods, where they and their family often go for walks.

However, Stacey admitted on today’s Loose Women that she initially thought the display had been put there in honour of someone who had died.

Sharing the news of her engagement on Instagram in December, Stacey wrote: ‘Actually full on blubbering as I write this.

‘And with Joe with our boys in my favourite place in the world, he asked me to marry him and after crying for what felt like a very long time, I said yes.’

Loose Women’s Carol McGiffin faces backlash after defending US Capitol rioters: ‘They’re not being heard!’

US Capitol riots and Carol McGiffin on Loose Women

Loose Women panelist Carol McGiffin has faced a heavy backlash after sharing her views on yesterday’s US Capitol riot, saying she ‘understands’ why those who took part ‘were there’.

On Wednesday January 6, a horde of Donald Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington DC in an attempt to disrupt the formal approval of Joe Biden’s presidential win.

The attack saw rioters break into the governmental building and resulted in four people being confirmed dead.

On Thursday, Loose Women presenters Jane Moore, Stacey Solomon, Judi Love and Carol discussed the shocking event, with Carol saying the ‘violence was just absolutely shocking’ and that ‘criminal damage is never acceptable for any reason’.

However, she also added that she ‘understands’ why those taking part in the riot were there in the first place.

‘I do understand why the people were there and what started off as a fairly peaceful, well a peaceful protest,’ she said.

Sorry, this video isn't available any more.

‘These people are angry, they are angry, and this is what happens when people get angry and it’s what happens when people are not listened to.’

The broadcaster continued, stating: ‘Whether or not you think or I think or anybody else thinks they have a case for the alleged fraud in the election and whether or not you think or I think or anyone else thinks it was stolen from them, they’re not being heard.’

Carol added that in her opinion, the attack ‘has basically put the final nail in the coffin for any case that they might have had ever’.

Several Loose Women viewers have called Carol out for her comments, with some accusing her of ‘spreading misinformation’ and ‘sympathising’ with the rioters.

‘Wth is Carol talking about? All the “evidence” has been heard and rejected! How is she allowed to spread misinformation on live tv? And to sympathise with these criminals is insane,’ one person tweeted.

‘Cannot believe what I’m hearing about last night’s events on @loosewomen, Carol defending these people saying they weren’t being heard and that the police were “overpowered” in numbers. How dare you? #LooseWomen,’ another remarked.

Someone else expressed their hope that Loose Women ‘take note of the numerous comments and outrage about Carol’s remarks’.

Meanwhile, another viewer said: ‘NOT Carol defending Trump supporters on #LooseWomen and using the most uneducated points to do so ??? Don’t know what more I expected tho.’

Before Carol shared her views on the attack, fellow panelist Judi expressed her ‘shock’ over the riots.

‘It was just absolutely shocking, worrying, concerning. I was just shocked by the anger and just the entitlement of people feeling like they can just go straight to the Capitol and get in and get through and just create so much chaos,’ she said.

After Carol spoke, lead Loose Women host Jane Moore noted that it was a ‘good couple of hours’ before Trump called for his supporters to ‘go home’.

Meanwhile, Stacey said: ‘I hear what you’re saying Carol, these people obviously feel that there’s an injustice, they’re not being listened to, and it’s everyone’s right to protest and stand up for the things they believe in.’

‘With regards to Trump, I think unfortunately these people see him as a huge figurehead and a massive influence in their lives and I do believe that he could do more to encourage a more peaceful approach,’ she said, adding that the president’s language ‘incites anger’ among people.

Following the riots, Facebook and Twitter announced that they had blocked Trump’s accounts.

The social media platforms previously removed a video he shared in which he told his supporters ‘we love you’ and called them ‘very special’.

Metro.co.uk has contacted ITV for comment.

Stacey Solomon slams ‘unfunny’ children’s show about man with world’s longest penis

Sorry, this video isn't available any more.

Stacey Solomon has slammed a Danish children’s show about a man with the world’s longest penis, saying it sends out the wrong message to young boys.

The Loose Women panellists discussed the controversial show, aimed at four to eight-year-olds, which follows animated character John Dillermand and his oversized penis, which often lands him in worrying situations.

In the show’s first episode, for example, John found himself floating over the city after balloons became tied to his groin. Yep, seriously.

While Kaye Adams found the show hilarious, Stacey was less than impressed, admitting: ‘I do have a bit of problem, because in the cartoon, he is out of control. It takes over, his penis and does things, and sometimes it’s heroic, but sometimes he can’t control it.’

The star, who is mum to three boys, said she always tries to combat negative stereotypes about masculinity, adding: ‘I do feel like raising boys, there’s this narrative that boys just can’t control their sexual organs.’

Nadia Sawalha said of the show: ‘This penis takes the dog for a walk, it buys an ice cream, totally separate from his brain. It goes fishing.’

Stacey responded: ‘That’s what I mean! What message does that send out? Does that not send out [a message] that ultimately men are not in control of their sexual organs?’

With Kaye insisting: ‘It’s funny!’ Stacey fired back: ‘It’s not funny! And also why is it stripy?!’

She added: ‘If you wanna show people a penis, there are so many ways of showing the human body not in a sexual way.’

Kaye pointed out that the humour of the programme might help to combat the narrative of ‘male genitalia being dangerous and sexual.’

‘It’s out of control!’ (Picture: DR)

However, Stacey certainly wasn’t convinced, hitting back: ‘What is more dangerous than getting it caught on a barbecue without your will?!’

Judi Love also agreed: ‘I think it’s a little bit too much for me personally.’

Nadia read out a statement from broadcaster DR, saying: ‘The series is about being true to oneself including your flaws, about acting with good intentions.

Sorry, this video isn't available any more.

‘The series also acknowledges children’s growing curiosity about the body, both the things that are embarrassing and the things that are fun.

‘Kids in this age group are very curious about what they shouldn’t do, which is why that’s the starting point for the series.’

DR also added on Facebook this week: ‘We think it’s important to be able to tell stories about bodies.

‘In the series, we recognise (young children’s) growing curiosity about their bodies and genitals, as well as embarrassment and pleasure in the body.’

Meanwhile, the Guardian reports that DR responded to criticism of the show by saying it could just as easily have made a programme ‘about a woman with no control over her vagina’.

They added that the ‘most important thing was that children enjoyed John Dillermand.’

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.

The television personality, who had her first son, Zachary, aged 17, shared her experiences of her pregnancy as she joined new anchor Charlene White, Frankie Bridge and Nadia Sawalha.

‘When I was pregnant with Zack, all I felt the whole way through was shame,’ Stacey shared. ‘I looked like a baby as well, I looked about six.

‘I think people looked at me like, “Ugh, why is she pregnant?”’

Stacey, who is engaged to Joe Swash, went on to have Leighton, eight, and one-year-old Rex.

She also revealed that she doesn’t enjoy being pregnant, but feels guilty for feeling this way.

Christine Lampard has spoken about her pregnancy, saying that going to hospital alone during the pandemic is a ‘lonely’ experience.

The presenter recently revealed she and husband Frank Lampard are expecting their second baby together, posting a picture of her bump on Instagram.

Appearing via video link on Loose Women, Christine said that things were very different this time around, with coronavirus restrictions making hospital visits a new experience.

While she said she’s very happy to comply with the regulations, Christine admitted: ‘It’s a bit lonely going to hospital appointments on your own.’

‘I’m sort of thinking ahead to April,’ she said about the birth. ‘Ideally I would want Frank alongside me. I don’t want to do it on my own.’

Christine went on to say it was a ‘bizarre’ time to be expecting a baby, but the news has already made a positive impact on her family.

Denise Welch is set to take Hollyoaks by storm, as she arrives in the eponymous village next week.

The Channel 4 soap confirmed last year that the Coronation Street actress would be playing Maxine Minniver’s (Nikki Sanderson) mum, Trish.

The New Year trailer, which dropped last week, previewed Denise’s first scenes as Trish, and new spoilers have revealed details about the Loose Women’s star’s debut story.

Maxine feels like her life is finally on the up after she notices a hot new guy named Brad King (Tom Benedict Knight) checking her out.

However, she soon learns that Brad is her new landlord, and therefore she begs him not to kick her out.

Brad reassures her that he’s got no intention of evicting her, and that her merely wanted to see her again.

The pair share a steamy kiss, and once again, Maxine is hopeful.

However, her happiness is short-lived when her mum Trish arrives in the village! Matters are complicated further when it becomes apparent that Trish isn’t here to see her daughter, but rather she’s on the hunt for her boyfriend… Brad!

Yes, Maxine’s new landlord — and love interest —is also Trish’s fella!

Maxine wastes little time in informing her mum that she and Brad got close on the previous night, but Trish refuses to believe her.

Trish then leaves her daughter speechless, as she informs her that she’s moving to Hollyoaks!

The Loose Women panel have stepped in to defend Katie Price after she made the heartbreaking decision to put her eldest son Harvey into care now that he’s turned 18.

The former model’s son was born with a series of genetic conditions and syndromes, and is autistic, partially blind, and has a series of learning and behavioural difficulties.

Katie has been raising him with the help of respite care throughout his life, but as he reaches a more adult age, she’s decided to put him into a facility where he can learn to be more independent.

Speaking on Friday’s Loose Women, Nadia Sawalha, Kaye Adams, Stacey Solomon and Judy Love all threw their support behind Katie as they praised what a ‘devoted’ mum she is.

‘I’ve seen Katie with Harvey, like many of us have, and nobody can deny the incredible relationship they have,’ Nadia began.

‘She adores that boy and I think we can all imagine how difficult it must be for her on one hand to make that decision.

‘But she’s making a really good mother’s decision because this is obviously the best thing for him, Kaye?’

Kaye replied: ‘I must echo what you said there Nadia and I think we all would.

‘She is a devoted mother and seeing Katie’s situation there I am sure there will be so many families in this country who have children with special needs and disabilities, who have had one of the hardest years of their life.

‘I mean, if we think we have had a tough time, most respite care and support has been taken away by necessity because of coronavirus, but I really take my hat off to everyone who has got through this year.’

Kaye Adams
Kaye hit back at the trolls criticising Katie’s decision (Picture: ITV)

‘Katie is making an incredibly difficult decision and a necessary one,’ she added.

‘Harvey is 18. He regards himself as a man and, to be blunt, Katie has to think, “I’m not going to be here forever.”

‘Anyone who stands in judgement should take a look at themselves.’

Stacey and Judy also went on to back Katie’s decision, with Stacey emphasising how difficult it is to be a carer.

Ending the segment, Nadia simply added: ‘From us to you, a big, big hug.’

Loose Women viewers also took to Twitter to share their support.

One tweeted: ‘I’m not the biggest fan of Katie Price but you can see she’s been brilliant with Harvey and absolutely adores him. You can’t judge her for this, it must’ve been a heartbreaking decision.’

Another said: ‘You might not like Katie Price but you have to commend her on raising Harvey virtually on her own for 18 years.’

While one added: ‘I don’t think anyone has a right to judge her decision, we don’t know what a day in her life is like. And no mother would come to that decision lightly.’

Katie Price Harvey

The TV personality previously admitted her fears about letting Harvey go, worrying that he will see her as ‘getting rid of him’ when that’s not the case.

‘This is his chance to live an independent life, learn skills and socialise with people other than me,’ she told The Sun, explaining he could potentially live there until the age of 25.

The facilities Katie has in mind allow Harvey to have his own kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, but also be surrounded by healthcare professionals that can handle his specific needs.

This also includes a swimming pool and specialists to help him control his weight, as he has Prader-Willi Syndrome, which in part leaves him feeling constantly hungry.

A documentary tracking the difficult decision airs at the end of this month on BBC One.

Katie Price: Harvey and Me airs Monday 25th January at 8.30pm on BBC One.

Dancing on Ice judge John Barrowman has revealed that he has been seeing a therapist for five months after struggling to cope in lockdown.

Speaking via video link on Friday’s Loose Women, John said that things got so bad at one point that he would ‘sit in a room and sob’.

The former Doctor Who star didn’t even tell his family about it over fears they would worry about him.

‘I wanted to go to someone who didn’t know me and didn’t have a preconceived image of me,’ he began.

‘I was doing that until I came back over [to the UK] every week for about the last four to five months.

‘Saying this on here, my parents and family didn’t even know I was going – you’re the first ones to know about it.

‘Scott knew but it was really nice to be able to talk to somebody who I can just vomit everything out to them ant not worry about them judging.’

‘It helped me to sort it out and figure it out because I was becoming cranky, crabby, it was hard,’ he added.

‘I was going into a room and just sitting and sobbing because I’d been so used to working all my life and, all of a sudden, one day it just stopped.

‘There was nothing to do. I didn’t know what to do with myself.’

Taking to Twitter after the interview, viewers couldn’t help but praise John for speaking out.

One commented: ‘Yes, well done John, it’s so necessary to be able to speak openly about seeking counselling for your mental health!’

Another praised: ‘Keep talking John. Thank you for being so open.’

While one added: ‘I really didn’t think I could love and admire @JohnBarrowman more but I do…’

John is currently in the UK in preparation for Dancing on Ice, which begins on Sunday.

This weekend he will be joined by fellow judges Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill, as well Diversity dancer Ashley Banjo.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield will also be back to present the show.

Loose Women airs daily at 12.30pm on ITV.

Saira Khan ‘tolerated’ some of her Loose Women co-stars before quitting show

Saira Khan has admitted she ‘tolerated’ some of her Loose Women stars before announcing her decision to step down from the show.

Earlier this month, it emerged that Saira, 50, had decided to quit Loose Women after five years.

The former Apprentice star explained that she wished to ‘pursue other life experiences’, as she felt she had ‘nothing left to share’ on the ITV programme.

While she may stay in touch with some of her fellow Loose Women panelists, there are others who the TV personality acknowledges she didn’t have close friendships with.

During a recent appearance on Scott McGlynn’s IGTV series Celebrity Skin Talk, Saira was asked about whether she’ll stay in contact with her fellow presenters.

‘Look – you make friends with some people, you tolerate some people and some people you just have to do a job with,’ she responded.

‘I’m not going to go into the nitty gritty there now but there are some friends, there are some people that I will be close to because we share, because we get each other, and there are some people that I really just don’t miss at all. It’s like – I just had to tolerate you to do the job.’

Saira added that it’s important to remain ‘professional’ regardless of how you feel about your colleagues.

‘You can’t pretend that everyone’s going to be your best friend,’ she stated.

‘Especially on a show where you have opinions, you’re not going to tolerate everybody’s opinion.

‘I think that’s fine, that’s not a problem. But you just have to do it with respect and you have to be able to be open-minded.’

Scott McGlynn and Saira Khan

Saira recalled some occasions on Loose Women when she would go into an episode holding a fixed view on a certain topic, which she would question after having an open-minded discussion with her peers.

‘I think sometimes on that show, in fact most of the time, I’d go in with a certain opinion and someone would say something and I’d think, “I never saw it from that point of view.”’ she said.

During her discussion with Scott, Saira also stressed the importance of diversity on TV.

‘I really do hope that they take my quest to see a member of the LGBT community on that panel. Somebody who is representative who can give a nice balanced debate and also to put stuff across from their point of view,’ Saira said.

‘I do think there’s a lot of daytime audience that need their minds opening up.’

Earlier this week, Saira celebrated the news of Charlene White being added to the Loose Women panel, writing in an Instagram caption: ‘If you can see it, you can be it. Congratulations @charlenewhite.’

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.

Saira Khan has unfollowed her former Loose Women co-stars after quitting the show earlier this month.

The presenter and former Apprentice star left the programme after five years at the start of 2021, recently admitting she ‘tolerated’ some of her co-stars.

Now, Saira has unfollowed Nadia Sawalha, Jane Moore and Kaye Adams on the social media site.

She still follows other Loose Women stars Stacey Solomon, Ruth Langsford, Linda Robson, Coleen Nolan, Denise Welch, Brenda Edwards, Kelle Bryan and Judi Love.

Nadia previously explained that she wished to ‘pursue other life experiences’ after leaving, as she felt she had ‘nothing left to share’ on the ITV programme.

During a recent appearance on Scott McGlynn’s IGTV series Celebrity Skin Talk, Saira was asked about whether she’ll stay in contact with her fellow presenters.

Saira has still been keeping up with all that’s been going on in the show. She previously celebrated the news of Charlene White being added to the Loose Women panel, writing in an Instagram caption: ‘If you can see it, you can be it. Congratulations @charlenewhite.’

Denise Welch defends Love Island stars partying in Dubai as UK remains in lockdown: ‘They may have a mortgage to pay’

Sorry, this video isn't available any more.

Denise Welch has stepped in to defend the Love Island and Towie stars currently working in Dubai as the UK remains in a national lockdown.

During Monday’s Loose Women, the panel were discussing whether influencers should be allowed to travel abroad for work and if it is ‘necessary’ that they do so.

Influencers including the likes of Georgia Harrison, Josh Ritchie and Yazmin Oukhellouhave been seen partying it up in Dubai in recent weeks, despite intense criticism aimed at those who have escaped London in lockdown for work.

England is currently in its third national lockdown and international travel is prohibited unless given a legally permitted reason to do so, such as work.

Speaking about the controversial topic, Denise began: ‘I feel some people are misjudging the tone of the nation and I get that.

‘But at the same time, I think what’s happening in the pandemic is that we are creating a very judgemental society.

Denise Welch
Denise stepped in to defend the Love Island stars (Picture: ITV)

‘It has given a voice to a lot of people who prior to the pandemic would have walked around people’s roads at the weekend looking over their fences, desperately wanting to see someone who has erected a clothes line without planning permission.

‘It’s given a massive voice to those who would be straight on the phone to the parish council.’

The 62-year-old went on to point out that the rules regarding travelling abroad ‘have been woolly’.

Loose Women panel
Linda Robson disagreed with Denise (Picture: ITV)

‘At the moment you can’t travel except if it’s for work but only a few weeks ago you actually could,’ she continued.

‘Those people who were adhering to the holiday rules is that they were getting a test before they went and some of them were getting another test when they got there.

‘There were actually following the rules.’

Linda Robson disagreed with Denise as she feels that the influencers are ‘rubbing people’s noses in it’ by going on holiday.

She explained: ‘I’d love to go (on holiday) but we can’t go at the moment and I do think it’s rubbing people’s noses in seeing them on the beach, in their bikinis or whatever.

‘I’m sorry, but it’s not essential to be an influencer.’

‘They may have a mortgage to pay,’ Denise interrupted. ‘And they’ve got children.’

‘They are entrepreneurs, this is their business, they do have bills to pay and irrespective of what’s happening in this current time, they have to work,’ Charlene White – who joined the panel full-time earlier this month – chipped in.

Linda added: ‘They do have to work, but for us, that’s can’t travel they can do it in their bedrooms can’t they.’

Paris Fury revealed she would be pleased if her dog ‘was gone’ as the Loose Women panel discussed whether it’s ok to take time off work to grieve for a pet.

Appearing via video link on Tuesday’s show, Paris, who is married to boxer Tyson Fury, said her dog is ‘just another problem in the house’ and that she would be ‘pleased’ if she wasn’t there.

‘Me, personally, we’ve got a little dog,’ she began.

‘But, the dog is here and if the dog was gone, I know it sounds cruel, but I would be quite pleased if she was gone because she’s just another problem in the house.’

‘I know I probably shouldn’t but, I’ve got five peeing and pooping machines in my house,’ she added.

Paris Fury

‘Then I add the dog who is a peeing and pooping machine, then I’ve got to feed them all, walk them all, wash them all and Tyson, who is a big giant peeing and pooping machine.’

Paris, who shares five children with the boxer, went on to mention that for some people, losing a dog would be ‘like losing an arm’.

‘If you’re in a quiet home that’s got maybe one person, two persons and then there’s the dog,’ she continued.

‘That’s a whole part of your life – that’s a big part of your life – especially if you’re a person on your own with just the dog, it’s your company.’

‘So, if they lost a dog I’d say gosh it’s like losing an arm, so it’s a really big thing to them.’

The discussion comes after comedian Miranda Hart confirmed that she was taking a break from her career so that she could grieve for her dog Peggy.

The 48-year-old opened up about the ‘excruciating sadness’ she is feeling after losing her ‘loyal, loving best friend’ – whom she bought in 2007 and inspired her 2016 memoir Peggy and Me – last week.

Sharing a number of heartwarming photos with her furry friend to Instagram, she wrote: ‘Last week I said goodbye to my beautiful, darling dog, Peggy.

‘I share because I shared her with you when I wrote Peggy and Me and many of you took her to your hearts. I have always been amused by and grateful for the pictures and gifts she was showered with. She used a blanket a fan gave her in Australia until the end.’

Miranda admitted the ‘pain’ she is feeling now ‘mirrors the unique joy’ she shared with Peggy, and confirmed plans to take a step back from the public eye.

Tyson Fury’s wife Paris is vehemently against Dolly Parton, 75, adopting in case she dies

Tyson Fury’s wife Paris weighed in on reports that Dolly Parton is adopting a child at the age of 75.

The country singer and her husband Carl Dean are looking to adopt a 10-year-old girl, it has been reported.

According to the Globe, Dolly is ‘keen to adopt a child of her own, even though she’s turning 75 this month. And Carl is all for it.’

Appearing via video link on Tuesday’s Loose Women, the mum-of-five disagreed with the rest of the panel, who were in support of Dolly adopting a child.

‘There’s a reason women have children young in life,’ Paris began.

‘I think it’s biological that you deteriorate at like 35, 40. Women go through IVF treatment at like 40, 50 I agree with that.

Paris Fury Janet Street-Porter
Paris isn’t sure whether she would adopt (Picture: ITV)

‘I think maybe you’ve waited until your career has finished or until it’s appropriate time of life to have children, so at that age, 40s, 50s is fair enough because like Linda said if you have 20-year-olds that lose a parent, they’re ready for that.’

Paris went on to add that even if Dolly did adopt a child now, ‘things can dramatically change for an older person’ in three years.

‘But, if you take some at 70 or 80 and they start having kids, then you’re going to have this child that could…Yeh it’s alright saying Dolly is fit and well now but in three years things can change dramatically for an older person,’ she continued.

‘They could die, which is a terrible thing to say and then you’re going to leave this child in turmoil.’

Janet Street-Porter weighed into the discussion as she interrupted: ‘Can I just say, speaking as a 74-year-old, I do not get up every morning and think bits of me are becoming more derelict and that life is coming to an end and the end of my fantastic life on earth is just around the corner.’

‘Well, maybe you need to accept that you’re beautiful and 74 and fresh,’ Paris replied.

‘But, things could change a lot quicker for you than a younger person.’

Janet added: ‘You’re entitled to think that, but all I will say is if I wanted to adopt a child, I do think that I have got the energy, the enthusiasm and certainly having looked after two stepchildren, I know what it entails.’

When asked by Charlene White whether Paris would adopt a child, she explained to the hosts that if a family member or a friend asked her to take care of their children, she would.

However, she said she isn’t sure she ‘would take that risk’ with adoption.

John Lydon sparks controversy smoking cigarette live on Loose Women

John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols, sparked a divided reaction after smoking a cigarette live on Loose Women today.

On Wednesday’s episode of the ITV talk show, John, 64, tuned in over video chat to speak with Jane Moore, Janet Street-Porter, Brenda Edwards and Coleen Nolan.

As he reached the end of his interview, John, who is living in Los Angeles, lit up a cigarette, puffing on it as the presenters bid him farewell.

Several Loose Women viewers expressed their disbelief over the musician’s action, some accusing the rocker of ‘trying to be controversial’.

Another commented that ‘smoking on live TV looks so wrong these days’.

On the website for communications regulator Ofcom, it states that smoking ‘must generally be avoided and in any case must not be condoned, encouraged or glamorised in other programmes broadcast before the watershed (in the case of television)’, the exception being if ‘there is editorial justification’.

Sorry, this video isn't available any more.

While a number of people criticised John for smoking on live TV, others found the moment entertaining.

Several viewers also pointed out that they could see a ‘Keep America Great’ cap in the background of John’s screen in support of Donald Trump, who is being succeeded as president of the United States by Joe Biden today.

None of the Loose Women presenters mentioned John’s smoking on screen as they transitioned into the next segment on the show.

During his interview on Loose Women, John spoke about caring for his wife Nora Forster, who has Alzheimer’s.

‘It’s both physically and mentally demanding to the point where I get no sleep hardly at all ever, but at least she’s happy. And that’s it,’ he said.

‘Nora’s always had an incredible sense of humour and I’ve got to say British comedy, thank you Brit Pop on the box, really keeps us together.’

In November last year, John shouted over Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain during a rant about Trump in the midst of the presidential race.

Describing the former host of The Apprentice as the ‘only hope’, John said: ‘Trump is not a politician. He’s never claimed to be. How unusually exceptionally wonderful is that for people like me, working class people.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted ITV and John’s representative for comment.

Animal charity PETA fears for Paris Fury’s dog (Picture: ITV)

Animal rights charity PETA has raised concerns about Paris Fury’s dog after she revealed that she would be pleased if her pup ‘was gone’.

The mum-of-five, who is married to heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, sparked outrage from the pressure group following her appearance on Tuesday’s Loose Women.

The panel were discussing whether it was ok to take paid time off work to grieve over a family pet, after comedian Miranda Hart confirmed she was taking a step back from her career so that she could grieve for her dog Peggy.

Paris told the Loose Women panel that her dog Minnie is ‘just another problem in the house’ and that she would be ‘pleased’ if she wasn’t there.

Elisa Allen, PETA’s director told Metro.co.uk that the charity is concerned for Minnie and that all dogs ‘should be treated with respect and consideration’.

‘The dog may feel the same way about Paris Fury if she receives no affection from her,’ Elisa told us.

‘Dogs are part of the family and should be treated with respect and consideration.

‘PETA fears for Minnie – and reminds everyone that getting a dog or cat requires making a lifelong commitment to caring for, spending time with, and loving that animal.’

‘I just haven’t got the time to commit to this puppy dog, the kids are too young to do it all and what we said before, I’m the one who has been lumbered with the dog and I’m the one whose got to care for her and look after her all the time. I just don’t have that connection.’

Paris, who shares five children with the boxer, went on to mention that for some people, losing a dog would be ‘like losing an arm’.
